Why I won’t give up my phone

I have just read an invitation at school to live one week without my mobile phone and my first thought was: “Okay, it’s just one week, it’s not going to be that tough.” And I really had to laugh when I read a girl’s comment that she would rather give up her kidney than her phone, because that is just ridiculous.
But after I thought again about the project, I realized that it’s actually harder than you might think, because if you take a closer look, you will realize how much time you spend with your phone and then try to imagine other things you can do during that time and suddenly a week, seven full days, are feeling so much longer.
I mean, there are a lot of people who say that I am addicted to my phone and that I have no hobbies. But that is just wrong, because of course there are other things and hobbies in my life than just my phone and I could totally imagine to lock it up for a day or two, but not being able to text my friends for a week would be honestly too much. And there is also the risk that something serious could happen in that week and if you can’t call someone in such a moment, you have a big problem.
However, I would never go as far as the girl and I think she is exaggerating with her comment. I also have a lot of respect for the students who are taking part in this project and the only thing I have to say to them is: Go on and do it, but think about it twice, as I did, because it will take more discipline than you first thought.
